Diesel heater with internal alarm sensors

I’m having an Autoterm diesel heater fitted tomorrow and am wondering if running it whilst the van in unoccupied (timer or remote starting) would cause the internal alarm sensors to set the alarm off?

We did once leave a low powered electric heater on whilst going for a shower on a campsite and it did just that. Well I assume that’s what set the alarm off but can’t be 100% sure…

I have never had the alarm triggered by operating my Webasto remotely which I do regularly in the cold months and have done for the last 6 years.

Anything that moves the air in the van might move other items and cause the ultrasonic sensors to detect movement.

If you know you are going to do it you can minimise risk by turning off the internal sensors when you lock the van, how you do it varies a little bit between T6 and T6.1 and what options you have.

You can also make sure there is nothing that can be blown about.

Thanks. It’s a T6.1 so I lack the B pillar button.
I assume it’s through the menus to switch off the ultrasonics for a single use? I’ve read about double locking switching them off too but I’m not with my van to try it.

Basic alarm is just door switches.

The upgraded alarm has ultrasonic sensors in the headlining...

Not had a problem myself, (leaving electric heater on while van locked)

But you can disable the factory ultrasonics with a button on the B pillar. Or just put a square of masking tape over both sensors to temporary disable them.

Post a pic of the roof center console.... That will show what you have.

Depends, on my 6.1 Caravelle there is no physical switch and I have to either dive into three layers of menu every time I look or disable the deadlocks with a double lock (which on the 6.1 disabled the internal sensors too - I don't think it does on the 6)

So as well as pics let us know what kind and generation of van you have and if you have

When it's not been used otherwise, I run my Autoterm heater for 20-40 minutes once a month with the doors locked and T6 Highline spec security system operating (the heater outlet is in the back of the driver seat base) - the alarm system has never been triggered. For what it's worth, I've never tried it in the van with a small fan heater but I do know that the same will set the alarm of in my Audi Q5.

Mines a 2023 T6.1 Highline which started life as a panel van. Thanks.

Thanks. Appreciate that

My diesel heater will trigger the alarm. My sensors are high up on the A pillars and heater outlet is on the side of the drivers seat base. Nothing to flap about either. I just switch the sensors off during winter so I can remotely start the heater without fear of upsetting neighbours or wildlife!

My alarm is an aftermarket one
