Dimmable spot lights

Hi everyone, looking for some guidance on the mine field that I’m discovering with dimmable LED’s.

What I’d like to do is wire in x4 dimmable LED’s in the ceiling of my T6 with an additional x2 in the tailgate.

Ideally, I’d like to wire this into the existing factory wiring (effectively swapping out the factory lights with LEDS) to avoid leisure battery setup and making it more complicated than it needs to be.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible and what’s the best way to go about it if so?

Thanks in advance ✌️

Directly on the factory wiring is unlikely to work well as the factory electrics do PWM dimming themselves for the fade out - which will disrupt any dimming controllers in the lights.

Also the standard wiring will shut the lights off after 20 minutes to save power. If you are a T6 not a T6.1 and are happy to do some coding that can be increased to about 2 hours. Obviously this increases the risk of draining your starter battery.

Hence why most folks run them off a leisure battery.

If it's just some additional lights an options is to run them from a small power pack to avoid a full install, that's what I do in the back of the Caravelle.

@Dellmassive did a good thread here:

I have a BLUETTI power bank which I use for running appliances. So I be interested to see how running them off this would work.

I have a T6 Kombi which is used both for work and camping so I needed a kind of hybrid van/camper. I’ve tried to evade the full rewire and leisure battery install as much as possible so I can just lift everything out when I need to. That being said, I still want the little comforts that come with having a camper.

Thanks for the link and the info. I’ll take a look.

My two are on this thread, only thing a few people have found is that the self discharge of Bluetti units while they are idling seems higher than expected.

I really like my little Beaudens unit. If you ignore it's limited AC capability it's a really neat self contained DC power system and a box that's easy to tuck away. You just need to have enough access to "arm it" for a trip and turn it on.

There are some pictures of how I use it on my tinkering thread, we have a similar situation that we have a Caravelle we use for roadtrips and days out that's also a bit of a day van and as yet we don't need a full install of camping gear/electrics:

i also done the Camper dimmable LED swap.

....

but still having issues with them setting themselves down to full dimmed mode after a few days.

not a major issue, just more annoying.

needs some more testing, but i think its defo related to the OEM dimming of the curtisy circuit.

Hi. Without wanting to start a new thread for what might already have been discussed...

Years ago i had some colour change down lights in my T5, similar to whats pictured above but with a remote that you could change them to red, green, blue etc. Cant seem to find similar anywhere. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Claire
