I've got the Discover Media unit in my T6 Caravelle, with everything but NAV. Part number is 5K7035200E.

I'm considering buying a unit with Navigation, that also has the current functions, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Cam.

Is it worth doing? I know there are 3rd party units available, but i'd like to stick to original parts. Does anyone know the part number for the equivalent unit with Nav? I'll see how much they're going for, and will they display the Navigation on the Speedo display like it would do if the unit was factory fitted?

Cheers all.

Sounds like you have the Composition Media unit as the Discovery unit is the nav unit. Not cheap and you still get a second rate nav system IMO.

Ok, if i were to replace it with an aftermarket unit, what would be recommended? I need something that will work with the parking sensors & reversing cam, have DAB, Bluetooth, Carplay, Navigation with easy updates, and ideally the navigation shows on the speedo panel.

Is CarPlay active on your unit?

In my experience all built in factory nav units (with the exception of the TomTom factory collaborations) are clunky, difficult to maintain and update etc. Try getting a firmware update out of your dealer and a map update ones a year if your lucky.

So I prefer a seperate Nav and use either Apple maps through CarPlay for some journeys and a TomTom 6200 for more complicated trips or those where I might not have enough mobile signal. These systems are more agile and are more up to date.

I have the VW Discovery sat nav and find it is a huge improvement over previous inbuilt systems I had in BMW and Suzuki cars.
Updating is now as simple as putting the SD card into a computer and letting a Pre installed program both check and then, if required, doing an update - exactly the same now as updating a Tom Tom or Garmin, just plug it in and it sorts itself out.
Loading POI can be done by either loading onto the SD card or I find it so much easier using the VW Carnet system and sending them to the car directly from my PC. You can also send destinations to your car this way if you are planing routes on your laptop which I find useful when planing foreign holidays where they don’t have postcodes.
Being built into the car it integrates into the dash display and everything just ‘works’.
It has taken us all over Europe without any issues.
Best of all you won’t get an oik throwing a brick through the window to nick the tomtom you forgot to remove from the windscreen.
The satnav in my BMW is dire but I have been pleasantly surprised with the VW one.

I've got it in my tiguan and find it good for all the reasons stated above. Although I do find its not so good for detailed navigation.
