I upgraded recently to this newer version which has WLAN. And the app button so assumed it had wireless CarPlay, IT DOESNT
So can anyone explain what the wlan is for?

WLAN ‐> WiFi
Basically you can set up your own Hot Spot( Wi-Fi Router) but it only makes any sense if you have a GSM modem plugged into one of your DM USB sockets.
