Diy Can Bus Adaptor??

I already have a CAN bus adapter, used in my profession (applications engineer) for programming industrial controls. If I buy some coding software, could I use this adapter to code the van?

It's a Lenze EMF2177IB like this;

I realise that I would need to make my own OBD connector, if it only needs CAN HI/LO/GND then this bit seems simple.

What I don't know is if the coding software will refuse to talk to an adaptor with a badge it doesn't recognise. Or if a real VCDS lead has more than the three connections.

To add to the complications, the van is a T6.1

I would hate to pay £225 for the lead, then find it's functionally identical to the one I already own.

Cheers!

You need VCDS for coding.

The genuine VCDS cable acts as a hardware dongle for the software.

I doubt VCDS will accept your generic cable.

Unless I misunderstood your Intention...

My intention is simply not to buy hardware I already own, I have enough clutter as it is! Honestly I would rather pay £200 for the software only if it worked with my lead, than pay £225 for the kit.

I will accept defeat in this case though, and buy the Ross-tech Hex V2, unless somebody comes along with a success story!
