Do I Have H4 Lights?

I'm reading all the crap headlight threads with interest and thorough confusion.
My lights are poor so I think I have H4. It's a 2017 lwb highline.
How can I confirm. Is there a site I can enter my reg to identify the parts I have.?

Once I confirm I have H4 I'm then looking to get the best light possible without changing the light units only the bulbs. So I think the safest easiest option is to fit HI bulbs from the forum shop? I'm not into coding but if someone near Bristol could do for me for a fee is be interested. I'm happy with the DRL lights as they are. I don't have the van with me at the moment so I can't check which DRLs I have.

I'm not bothered what they look like I just want to be able to see when driving at night!

Are your DRLs separate lights on the inside of the headlights or are they a strip underneath? If the former you have H4, if the latter H7

Pretty sure those are H4s but as above, turn your ignition on and see if those two lights on the inside next to the grille come on. If they do they're def H4s

Bugger. So am I correct in translating all the other threads the easiest way to get better lights to see when driving and leaving the DRL as they are and not going to the cost of LEDs or xenon's is to "simpley" swap the H4 bulbs for H7s.
If someone can sum up the possible different scenarios to solve this including the amount of work and cost of parts it would be really helpful.
This seems to be widely discussed topic and and it may help others to have the options set out simpley in one place increasing cost and complexity to from H4 candles up to all singing all dancing LED options and everything in between.

no not swap h4 bulbs for h7.. will not work .
options are

1, buy better h4 bulbs (small improvement but noticeable) low cost
2, buy new VW OEM H7 headlamps (from forum shop complete H7 headlamp) medium cost
3, buy transporterhq/travelinlite etc headlamps (same H7 as above but with fancy DRL) higher cost
4, buy VW OEM LED Headlamps (best headlights currently available) massive cost to retrofit


BTW i bought a van off those people also

Option 5, use your existing headlights and send them off to be retrofitted with HID projectors for huge output improvement (arguably on par with factory LEDs) higher cost than 1/2/3 but less than half the price of 4 (depending on what you do with sidelights/indicators)

Bit late but easiest way to check is to use them when it’s dark, if you can’t see anything they are H4’s!!!!

So 2 and 3 give similar brightness \ ability to see in dark but 3 is nicer looking and more ££££
Does 2 the forum shop H7 at £185 per side need the bumper taking off to fit and coding?

Any headlight replacement requires the bumper to come off, you don’t have to code them they will work just doing a straight swap but the dip beam will go out when you activate mainbeam (as they do at the moment) but coding them will change that to stay on with main beam so you can do it at your leisure afterwards as all lights are still functional

i have not had an issue with our lights as i thought we had h7's but it seems we have H4's going from these pics..

Anything is an option but you shouldnt fit disharge (xenon) or LED lamps in a reflector headlight, this is an MOT failure (in the UK) and could put you on the wrong side of the law if the worst were to happen

That sounds very interesting, have you tried this or got any details? What’s the MOT situation?

Havent personally done this on my T6 but a few people on here have
Basically the lamp and reflector is no longer used and a projector type lense is installed in the headlight instead utilising high output HID lamps, if done correctly i dont think there are any MOT implications but you would need to do your own research on that and speak to any potential converter for further advice
The main company i know of that does this and who i have had dealings with in the past is EM Tuning - EM Tuning but there are plenty of people around that offer these services

I know @Alan Walsh has had his done and there are a few others but i cant think of their names to tag them
