Do I need headlight deflectors in Europe

Hi , I have a WW T6.1 2024 registration. It’s the highline version with LED headlights as well as auto beam assist . Do I still need headlight deflector pads applied to my lights when driving in Europe ?

If you have led headlights, they are flat patten so normally ok abroad. We went to France and were fine (Edition with LEd headlights), but I carried a pack of deflectors just in case.

You might have a option in you dash cluster to change them to aboard also.

There's a whole thread dedicated to this subject...somewhere

Not sure if the discussion came to a definitive answer, but I believe there was mention that T6.1 LEDs adjust automatically based on location of vehicle. I can neither confirm nor deny this is correct though.

EDIT: Here are a couple of related threads...

We drove around the Pyrenees last year in our 2022 6.1 with factory LED's without any adjustment/stickers etc and had no issues at all. When you look at the beam pattern against a wall they are virtually a flat line whereas old bulb type units really kick up at the ends which is what dazzles cars abroad.

Yeah I think the 6.1 are a flat beam whereas the 6 factory LED's have a very noticeable higher section on the left side, which is why it needs lowering for EU travel.

This^^^ European cars dip cleanly to the centre (not the right), whereas in the UK its to the left with a flare right where an oncoming Frenchman's face would be.

I have been driving across Europe for 20 years and despite many police checks during that time I have never had any problems or questions about it. From what I remember, EU regulations state that a vehicle must meet the technical requirements of the country where the vehicle is registered, not where it is temporarily located.

Can’t find the thread but pretty sure that the conclusion was that you don’t have to do anything for a 6.1 with led’s

Thread linked above (post #4).

I fitted a pair on my H7s a couple of years ago and when we got back from the first trip with them on, I went to remove them when we got home (after 4 weeks away) but quickly realised that it would be very difficult and probably leave a mess behind that would not easily clean off so I just left them in place and they've been there ever since - the temperatures on that particular trip hit the late 30s at times and I reckon the sticky stuff just got baked on. Since then, other trips further south didn't get any cooler and they're probably even more firmly stuck on now. On the plus side, I've saved a fortune by not having to buy a new pair for every euro trip.

Ok, thanks for all the replies. Think the conclusion is that LED’s are ok and wont require the deflectors .Ill probably travel with a pair stored away , anyway just in case of being stopped and not being able to to argue the point with the authorities !

You don't need them with factory LEDs. You won't actually find an area on the lens to stick them, so carrying a set on the off chance is moot.
