DPF and CAT Part number query

Good Afternoon,

Looking for a bit of advice - What is the Affix mean on Part numbers for DPF and Cat. My Garage advises me that I require part number 7E0 254 700PX for DPF and 7E0254201 QX for the Cat.

What I have currently on the vehicle has different numbers 7E0131723P and 7E0131690N respectively stamped on the parts - now I believe that these are likely to be 'component' numbers only that comprise of other numbers to create the 'Part Number'.

This is causing some confusion - so for the 7E0 254700 DPF there are affix's of QX, MX, PX, S and SX -
Do these affix's relate to engine type? For example 7E0 254700 PX for a 204BHP CXE engine only and a different affix for say a 150 BHP CXH?

Is there actually any difference to these parts in accordance to engine type or are they indication of when the part was originally fitted to a vehicle?

Many thanks in advance

The letters on the end means either a superseded part, upgraded part or vehicle specific part such as model, engine or PR code.

The "X" version is a refurbished unit from VW that has been refurbed at factory. It's usually slightly cheaper than a brand new part.

This can be selected to save a little on cost OR it could be a brand new unit is NLA from factory and only refurbed units are available.

Thank you so much for this information - extremely helpful, especially about the "X" version, a has have been quoted the same price for such from an independent garage as opposed to a new component from VW - however as you say it could be a case of only refurbed units are available from factory.
The cost for new (or official refurbish units as they may be) are extortionate - however on the purist of second hand units from breaker or specialist suppliers have just resulted in purchased items being delivered 'gutted, and welded up' .These so called specialists all say that they are the same as long as the main part number matches - but i'm not convinced! It's all costing more in the long run...

I have a 150 DSG Caravelle.

I was also a little confused as my old DPF had 7E0131723P stamped on the underside and I was told I needed 7E0254700P.

I bought a new DPF and what I got was 7E0131723PX which as mentioned above is an exchange unit. What I did notice when looking at the new DPF is there are a few different part numbers on the item for the various components that make up the whole DPF assembly.
