DSG gearbox excess freeplay?

Hi,

just asking for a bit of advice and thoughts on this excess play in my T5.1s 7 speed DSG gearbox. There is a clunk on acceleration and deceleration which sounds like it comes from the front left, but nothing when actually changing or going through the gears. I originally thought it could be a driveshaft issue but jacking up the front left wheel when the vehicle is in park and rotating the wheel back and forth there is a definite clunk coming from the gearbox itself.

I asked about the same issue here on this thread: DSG Front Diff and we decided in the end all was fine with regards to the noise it makes when rocking the wheel backwards and forwards.

The loud clunking I heard at the time that initiated my investigation turned out to be the 4Motion prop shaft sliding back and forwards slightly under load.

So not to say there definitely isn't an issue with your van, but the noise in the video is at least usual, if not normal.

Have you got the full service history for the gearbox and what’s the mileage?
