Electric gremlins?

Some advice please - I’ve searched the forum high and low and can’t find an answer!
Have two issues:
1) I installed a Halo 9 / dash cam / reverse cam in my T6 highline a couple of months ago and love it - all good… only thing amiss is the phone button on the MFSW doesn’t do anything (even with long press etc). Siri works anyway so that’s not a big issue and all other buttons work.
2) I’ve also noticed the two rear courtesy lights don’t react to the doors opening, they work with the on/off tilt so the positive and negative cables are good but the red/brown switched negative is presumably not being “switched” when the sliding door or tailgate open. The front cab lights react to the front doors opening.
Having read loads on this incredibly useful forum (I’d be lost without it!) I’ve tried the main battery disconnect BCM reset procedure touching the disconnected + and - leads together for 60s) but no joy with either issue.
I’ve had the bus three months and didn’t notice/check whether the rear courtesy lights ever worked on door opening prior to putting in the halo so although I presume the two issues are unrelated I can’t say for certain the halo installation didn’t trigger the light problem.
Just trying to get these sorted (particularly the courtesy light - not too bothered re the phone button) before I finalise all my wiring while it’s all still exposed prior to covering the walls etc.
Any advice gratefully received,
Cheers. Ben

Hi Ben,

Your Halo fitting kit is it the genuine Alpine one?

Have you access to VCDS or some sort of diagnostic equipment?

Hi Chris,
Yes it is indeed the genuine Alpine fitting kit.
I’ve only got a Carista (and I think I joined the beta testing for it) - I used it for the free subscription month and haven’t since!… will that give enough helpful info in diagnostics or do I need to bite the bullet and find someone local with VCDS?
Many thanks

Carista might I'm not familiar with it but some diagnostics is better than non even if it shows a few fault codes

Just ran the diagnostics with Carista and have two faults showing:

1) Instrument cluster - 13654544 - (my understanding is that shows as it’s recognising the original audio head unit is missing - which it is )

2) CAN network gateway - 03158 - not sure what this is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I remember reading a fault code can show up if you’ve changed the region to Australia to get the big speedo in the MFD (which I have) so not sure if that’s relevant?

Cheers

03158 control module for information electronics (headunit) no communication/cannot be reached fault.

Missing message is probably due to it not being coded in properly. In the MFD when you go to the audio page where it says alpine does it say F2 in the bottom left corner?

It says Er:2 in the bottom left of the Audio page… which I was lead to believe was a coding issue with the aftermarket head unit which could be sorted with VCDS but purely a cosmetic issue rather than a functional one - is that correct?
So am I right in thinking it sounds like both those Carista fault codes are just due to the aftermarket Alpine unit and neither relate to the problematic rear courtesy lights?
Thanks for your help Chris - I guess a scan with VCDS would be helpful but I’m not near you unfortunately - is there anyone local to NW3 (north London) that has one by any chance?!

Not sure about VCDS near you.

If you can code in carista you need to go in the gateway and in the installation list tick module 37 navigation then cycle the ignition by taking the key out and then turn it on again now clear all faults. F2 should disappear and possibly the other fault.

As for light no they won't be connected unless you've wildly cocked the install up

Thanks Chris - I appreciate your help
Can’t code in Carista (unless I’m mistaken) but if I ever get round to doing the VCDS thing I’ll get that issue sorted - not sure if it will get the phone button working or not but that’s not a biggie really.

Ha! - Don’t think I cocked the install up wildly (everything else is talking to each other nicely - and I’ve taken it all apart to make sure all connections were fully seated etc) so I guess I’m back to head scratching re the lack of courtesy light negative switching in the load area!!
Any other thoughts gratefully received
Cheers
