Extra deep step fitting? SOLVED

I have a Reimo Variotech 3000 fitted. The floor is 40mm deep from the low part of the van floor. I have the extra deep caravelle side step, but it is still 7mm short. I can pack underneath, and move the side fasteners upwards.

However, I could do with some really long clips for the base. The existing ones don’t even reach the holes. I’ve tried some spare door panel clips I had, but again not long enough. 35mm would be ideal.

Any thoughts before I get grumpy and bang some self tappers through?

Yes, I’ve seen photos on one one here. The floor surface (top of vinyl) is about 0.5 mm below the the top surface of the track. When I put the step on, it doesn’t reach the original clips, and sags down when I step on it. It measures about 7mm too low.

The step is original VW from a caravelle, including the genuine Caravelle light, so I was surprised.

The Reimo track is bolted to a plate, which is bonded to the van floor. Pictures from the back showing the various layers (its side step I’m doing ).

Ah the modern bonded Reimo track, mine have always been the bolt down type.

This the height of my step is this...


95mm from step base to top, sorry it's dirty I'll get my act together and clean it soon.

As for the rear, I've been able to refit the original clamped into place with longer screws.

Thanks, that explains it here - the bonded plate adds about 15mm, and at the back the step is cut to butt up to the back of the floor, it won’t go over the top at all.

Further down the line, If you really get stuck, I'm happy to share what I did when I got grumpy with my step's fixings, which wouldn't stay fixed.

Not 100% certain but try these and always double check with your supplier.

Without stainless steel insert -- 7E5 863 725A 82V

With Stainless steel insert -- 7E5 863 725D LAX

If you don't have the longer illuminating light that fits in the step you will need a variant of this (variation depends on the inscription)

Step light with 'Caravelle' inscription -- 7LC 947 415AA 72A other inscriptions are available.

and an adaptor wiring loom -- 7LA 971 067B

If you are looking at the one with the stainless steel insert as in the picture above be sitting down when you ask the price!!

You need the PR numbers that relate to your vehicle and search the parts lists for the step that matches a van with the appropriate PR number.
