Faulty DMF

Hi

I posted a few weeks ago about my new T6.1 with only 500 miles on the clock. The DMF was replaced under warranty but the fault still remains. The van is back at VW and they are now saying that this noise is normal and they are happy with the van.

This is the noise my van is making. Any suggestions would be helpful as I really don’t know what to do now.

Definitely dmf,or clutch release bearing ,take it back
Thanks for your reply.

I did question VW as to why they didn’t replace the entire clutch kit. They told me because the other parts were serviceable the warranty would not cover them. The van is currently with VW.

With 500 miles on the clock? That says the problem existed at point of sale - i.e. it's a them problem.

EDIT: More to the point, consumer law says that's a a them problem.

Definitely sounds like DMF. As has been said compare it to another van on their forecourt if necessary. Which dealer have you taken it to? I would recommend going to another dealer if they have said it’s normal- I can recommend a dealer as I can see you are Hampshire .

Hi

I did exercise my rights under CRA 2015 as the fault developed within 30 days. This went completely ignored by Marshall VW. I have again exercised my rights as the repair was unsuccessful, again this has been completely ignored. VW head office are now involved. To be honest the entire situation is a complete nightmare. I have read on a few forums, people having issues with VW, regarding warranty repairs.

Your contract will be with the dealer, not VW. Have you raised a formal complaint with the supplying dealer?

Hi

This is a response from headquarters. The van is currently with Breeze Southampton.

Dear Stewart

I trust this reaches you well.

I have received the video evidence. Thank you.

Alan has said that the sound occurs on 3 other vehicles which have a little higher mileage than yours. This shows that the sound is apparently normal.

I have asked them to continue testing the vehicle, especially on cold starts, to see if there is an issue.

Please allow them another 48 hours for an update.

I will look to update you as soon as I have some further information.

If there is anything else that I can help you with in the meantime, please do not hesitate to respond to this email or contact me on the number below during my working hours: Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM—18:00 PM,

Thank you for your patience.

Have a great day!
Well, at least they haven't completely given up on investigating. Perhaps hold back on the formal complaint until they've gone as far as their willing.

I have just been completely ignored by them. That’s why I contacted VW headquarters. It’s all very strange.

If the supplying dealer won't play ball, then it's time to raise a formal complaint. If they fail to respond within 8 weeks, then you have deemed to have exhausted their formal complaints procedure and you are entitled to escalate - either via the courts or via The Motor Ombudsman.

You absolutely won't get anywhere by going to VW - your contract is with the supplying dealer and VW will just make sympathetic noises (at best).

Hmm, not them again!

Currently waiting for my case to be assigned to an administrator. This can take up to six months for the ombudsman to come to a resolution.

Six months? By 8 March, my TMO case (background here) will have been active for 2 years!! :fast rofl:

My case has gone all the way through administration and adjudication, and is currently with the ombudsman for a final ruling - but it's been sat with the ombudsman for the last 10 months.

I think it was William Gladstone that said "Justice delayed is justice denied".

Picked the van up yesterday from Breeze, who have been pretty helpful with all this. They said there isn’t any issues with the van. The noise has just mysteriously disappeared completely now. Hopefully it stays this way.

So the sound was "apparently normal", but has now disappeared... allegedly without them having made any adjustments - as if by magic?
Given you don't have any explanation for the noise, how do feel about that outcome?

To be honest I don’t know what to think. They say the noise of the fault in the video has been amplified by the phone’s microphone. I also have no paperwork for any repairs despite asking. They say this is because the work was done under warranty. I will just have to believe it’s all magically disappear at least for now.
