Flywheel slot for sump bolt removal, dsg

I'm trying to remove the sump on my 67 plate 204 dsg 4motion. I'm turning the crank to reveal the slot in the flywheel but the bolts are still barely visible. I can get my long reach 5mm allen key in the socket and slacken them off, but there's not enough room to undo them all the way because of the angle and the flywheel being in the way. Am I missing something?
I suspect the dmf need replacing, not sure if this would make a difference.
