Fog lights and Main Beam

Agree with Loz about the harm aspect, but users need to be aware of the legal position before deciding to convert.

The legislation in this respect only relates to use, and I’m pretty sure (I’ve been out of that environment a little while) it’s not illegal to have the fogs wired up with the mains.

Totally agree. Simple answer is it is illegal from a road traffic act perspective.
In years gone by now many people had additional spotlights on their cars unfocused and in excess wattage of the main beam (100 watt or more). As it would never be my intention to leave main beam on either behind or facing oncoming cars I cannot see an issue, given that, you can leave fog lights on when in poor weather (fog) when behind or facing on coming cars as they are a focused and directed beam I cannot see an issue at all.

A roads policing officer may not agree with you. But it’s totally your decision.

Dunno but modern LEDs are daytime running lights and not fog lamps.

It might also be something to do with the legal positioning requirements ?

I’m no longer a lighting regs experts and things can change

How come the fog lights are allowed to come on when cornering then??? I am I breaking the law if I turn a corner when it isn't foggy???
Have to admit @DaveBos that is an excellent point, well made. All I can go off is having been pulled over and reprimanded at the age of 22 as I had left my front fog lights on and PC Plod took offence. The irony is that unlike a lot of young lads in their Saxo’s (as it was at the time), mine was a genuine error as I had been driving for 4 hours and the fog had been as thick as soup going from the M5 through the countryside around Glastonbury/ Yeovil to visit Mrs DaveyB before she was Mrs DaveyB. Only the fog had cleared as I came into Weymouth, so I was pulled over.
Each to their own, i’m not conceited enough to castigate someone for doing it, merely pointing out my experiences.
