Front dashcam mounting/sticking to the windscreen?!

Hi all!

I’ve had a dashcam for months now and it’s spent more time swinging from the screen than stuck too it!

So I’m sticking it behind the rear view mirror, just below the black dots. I’ve cleaned the windscreen with alcohol wipes, let it dry, then used Gorilla double sided tape (several times now)! What am I doing wrong? Or any hints/tips (sensible ones please :p) of how to stick it so it doesn’t come down please??! It’s driving me crazy!:p

Thanks in advance guys!

I use acetone to clean - I have found that alcohol will leave a trace on the glass, then fix with 3M VHB pads. Even then they have let go occasionally in extreme heat.
Tried Gorilla stuff but this failed, likewise with various other products.

I put a smear of black silicone sealant on the sucker. Stuck on without the camera for 24 hours. Has stayed put for a couple of years so far.

I have the issue currently on my rear one however that is because its above 30 degress here everyday and inside a black van its I guess more like 40 so the rear one swings nice. I have VHB and all the other stuff however as its sticking to the plastic trim surrounding tailgate it isnt entirely smooth. Might resort to some CT1.

This is precisely why I've ordered on of these FITCAMX DASH CAM for my Toaureg....

I'll advise shortly on how good it is - they do one for a Transporter
Interesting...

Deffo let us know what that's like, looks a much simpler install if you're not worried about a parking mode.

Watching with interest, already got a front and rear Blackvue in the T6, but they do one for the Golf.

I have a garmin 67 dash cam that came with a double sided pad and has never failed in 3 years. I’m sure garmin will, albeit expensively be able to supply these as a separate part if they will fit your application as an alternative.

Thank you guys! @oldiebut goodie the VHB pad seems to have worked a treat!!! The best yet anyway! It’s been up 2 months now and doesn’t seem to have budged!

Cheers all! Good job! :)
