Front window washer pipe split

One of the front window washer pipes has split - water sprays out near the bonnet. I bought a kit with some rubber tube and two connectors.

Before fitting I noticed the other pipe is wrapped in cloth tape. I will need to remove some of that in order to fix the second pipe. Is this standard, or has somebody already repaired one pipe? Is there a better fix?

I had the same recently and had to remove the cloth tape also, must be a factory thing.

I used a cheap Halfords connector with some encouragement from a lighter. Bit of a cowboy fix to be honest but I wrapped the repair in new tape and it’s held for a quite a while now

If you've got two pipes going in to the bonnet one of them will be electrical and you'll have heated washer jets. The jets themselves pop out easily from the bonnet to check.

My 6.1 pipe is wrapped in cloth tape and I’ve had it from new so it’s a factory thing.

I done this yesterday but with a T piece and super glue to close the opening I didn't need lol

Mine has been repaired a few years ago and is starting to leak a little again (when wash is activated).

Does anyone know if it is a big job to just rip the whole length out and stick a new one in? Can’t see why anyone would use brittle corrugated plastic tube when flexible rubber hoses have proven reliable for decades!

I haven't looked yet but if possible I'll be replacing with rubber hose
