Genuine VW replacement fob programming

Apologies in advance as I realise similar topics have been posted, but not quite answering my questions.

When I bought my van a few weeks ago it only came with the one key fob. The dealer ordered a second from VW and has posted it to me, but I need to take it in to a VW dealer to get it programmed.

I'd be interested to hear what I should expect to pay for the reprogramming and also if it HAS to be done at VW, as it seem they insist on doing a vehicle health check and courtesy clean (I'll be refusing the clean). So looking at a couple of hours for what sounds like a quarter of an hour job.

Thanks in advance :)

Approx £300 if I remember correctly. They should have told you this when you ordered it.
It is special.

For instance, if you lose it, you can contact VW and they can disable that fob remotely. That is irreversible unfortunately. (I was told)

I have the new fob from VW. Just curious on how much for the programming and if it has to be done by VW. Sounds likely that it does though

About half hour labour, plus VAT. It doesn't actually take half an hour, but the book time make allowance for getting the vehicle in and out the workshop, setting up the gear, etc.

Some will do it for free if you buy the key from them, some will bend you over for the full price. Ring a few local dealers and ask.

Yeah, I was quoted £62.50+vat, so £75, which seems ok. But the closest is half an hour away and the while-u-wait appointments are pretty inconvenient times. They also want to do a complimentary vehicle health check (sounds like a trap) and clean (no thanks). Oh well...guess I better take a book.

If its anything like the BMW dealer they're probably contractually bound as part of the franchise T&C's to push the health check every time it crosses the threshold.

Took my Mini in for a ride of chrome trim under warranty - health check.

Software update - health check.

And so on. I could have said no but they had it in the workshop anyway so let them get on with it. I always refused the clean though.
