Getting the vw media unit to play apple g 4 audio files sd card

Hi Folks , apple have started using g4 audio files on I tunes , I have an sd card full of music alas it only seems to recongnise mp3 files im my 6,1 media unit .
any ideas if it can be made play the G4 music files on an sd card ?
