Glow plug light flashing and limp mode

Hey guys

So having driven from Ireland to Uk today, half way van decided to flash up an engine light and glow plug flashing and limit me to approx 60kph, buddy managed to plug it in to show me faults, see attached resukts

Anyone any ideas? Are glow plugs a job I’ll manage myself? I’d be relatively handy but would be doing it with limited tools and on a driveway?

Van is a 2017 T6

I just did the glow plugs in mine. The challenge is how stuck they are. The first time I attempted to get them out I did a driveway engine warm up. Just ran it for 10mins or so. Nowhere near full operating temp. First plug wouldn’t budge.

Then I put it all back together and drove it until everything was toasty. Then stripped it down - removing charge/inter cooler full of hot coolant is no fun.

With a very warm cylinder the plugs came out quite easily.

But the procedure and art of removing glow plugs should be understood. Plus, an airline to blow out crap around the plug I argue is essential. A delicate feel for torque on chocolate glow plug collars is also essential.

Have you cleared faults to see what comes back? I don’t expect glow plugs to disappear for long. Just wondering about the boost control “coincidence”.
 
Mine is in for No2 replacement today under warranty. This one requires intercooler etc removing and VW Assist were not prepared to do it on the drive.

My only dilemma now is whether to get them to do 1 and 4 also while they are at it but not sure of cost yet as it is at a main stealer so will see later.

3 got done under warranty last year
 
In my case I had a faulty glow plug in cylinder 4. I replaced all of them at the same time because I had no desire to do the job more than once. I would want to pay a main dealer to do that job more than once even less.
 
Because the glow plug light is flashing (rather than on permanently) I would suspect the turbocharger boost controller fault is more likely to be the real issue.
As said previously, the first step would be to clear the codes and see which ones return (or can't be cleared) and go from there.
