Head unit confusion

I've been wanting to upgrade my head unit for a long time, but I find it baffling trying to find good options.

My main aims of the upgrade are
1. Have android auto (slight preference for wireless)
2. Be able to add reversing and maybe dash cam either at same time or later
3. It not being horrible to use
4. Reasonable screen size, but doesn't have to be huge

It would also be good to retain steering wheel volume controls, but this isn't essential.

Alpine halo 9 seems to keep coming up, but wow those cost.

Anyone have other suggestions that they're using and should I be sorting the cameras at the same time?

I fitted a pioneer 360DAB they’re half the price of the alpine and do everything you are looking for. I bought mine from Chris at the Vancave and he sorted me out with all the correct connections so everything including the steering wheel controls work.

I bought the pioneer rear camera to go with it but I’ve got a full camper so running the cable is going to be a bugger so not fitted that yet. I’d imagine you would be able to get a front camera for it too.

I’ve only got rear sensors and they work independently of the head unit

Have you looked at the Pioneer SPH-EVO950DAB-1D? I’m looking at these as a cheaper Alpine alternative? Has anyone fitted or used one?

The Pioneer DAB360 is a great little unit as recommended above by @The Flying Scotsman and it can do all of the things you want it to when supplied with the correct adapters etc.

Pioneer recently (last few months or so) also released the SPH-DA77DAB which is now my go to head unit upgrade for customers like you. I can supply this or the 360 with all the correct adapters, or I can supply and fit if that works for you. Drop me a DM if you would like to discuss further or get a quote.

The Pioner SPH da77dab is the cheapest head unit that has CanBus input to retain parking visuals from a premium brand (when used with the Pioneer interface)
