Any ideas on what could cause the open circuit? Heated seat still works but only on max no matter what setting I put it on.

If it's working on max but not any other setting most likely open circuit is the temperature sensor?

Thanks, where would I find the temp sensor?

Its fitted into the rear of seat base heat pad. You can either replace the whole pad or just temp sensor by inserting new one as far as you can between the fabric,pad and cushion, but also would need to repin the two wires from the old one from plug under the base to bypass the damaged one.

It's also possible you have a wire break, so check the wiring. I believe it's a single 4 pin connector under the seat and a 10 pin into the loom, a loose connector seems less likely if the heating wires themselves are working.
