Hi Ayjay, we use Superfast from Bari, we would have used Superfast from Ancona but the minute the tickets go on sale they go fairly quickly for the camping deck, The Bari route is a nicer time as it leaves about 19.30 and obviously a shorter crossing, on the way back we did manage to get on the camping deck back to Ancona with Superfast.@Newchester2024. Can you tell more about the ferry please (ie. which line, which ship and what deck were you parked on)? I ask as we did the reverse journey to yours last year with Superfast and I didn't particularly enjoy the experience. We booked quite late when all the camping car slots had gone (as indeed were all the better cabins). Neither of us fancied mixing with the great unwashed all night in the reserved seats or more public areas so we took the best cabin that we could get which was on main deck level but still well inside the ship and without windows. Although my wife thought it just fine, I'm not particularly good in enclosed spaces (a product of PTSD which I thought I was over but obviously not!) and as a result I don't particularly want to repeat the experiment.
We're planning on Greece again later this year but rather than France/Germany/Austria/Slovenia/Croatia/Montenegro/Albania which we used for the onward journey last year, I'm now looking at Slovenia/Hungary/Serbia/Bulgaria or Slovenia/Croatia(inland)/Serbia/Bulgaria. I'll be posting separately asking for any experience on those routes later this year.
Cheers.
@Bav - As mentioned above (and in contemporaneous posts), we did it last year and will be doing so again this coming August/September/October (exact dates TBC) but still need to do a bit of plannng. That said, I don't want to do too much of that as I always think it can spoil the adventure.Hmm - Greece in the van... now there's an idea.
At some point, I'll need to pick your brains on the subject, but I think, campervaning-wise, we need to walk before we can run.@Bav - As mentioned above (and in contemporaneous posts), we did it last year and will be doing so again this coming August/September/October (exact dates TBC) but still need to do a bit of plannng. You can only use the camping on board if the van was registered as a camper/motorhome, so unfortunately any conversions won’t be accepted,,, start shopping for a Cali !!Any more info or photos of this camping on board ferry? I like the sound of that! Looking at their website it says the vehicle must be recognised by the registration as a camper, mine is officially a van with windows. Is yours and did you have any trouble with that?
Cheers mate. I was thinking more about the ferry crossings and the possible routes to get down to the ferry ports, but, TBH, I think such a trip is probably 2 or 3 years off yet - we haven't even popped over the channel in our van yet!@Bav. Welcome anytime. But just regard going to Greece as the same as going anywhere else in Europe except the distances are greater!
Hey UK’s great as well and I’m sure Europe will still be there when you decide to take the plungeCheers mate. Tis true. Despite a year of campervanning and 20 years of tenting, there's still lots of the UK we've yet to explore.Hey UK’s great as well and I’m sure Europe will still be there when you decide to take the plunge
