T6.1 Lane assist/Traffic sign recog. camera after windscreen replacement

Looking to speed up a warranty issue as local main dealer do not see many vans with this option.

Basically the windscreen was replaced by Autoglass/Ins with OE screen. They can’t calibrate this system properly & neither can JCT600 VW CV.

VW tech UK have said check another van/velle with the system to see if the camera is mounted correctly.

JCT600 say that it’s a very rare option & they haven’t seen any in ages & I’m fed up of seeing the dash errors it generates every time I turn the ignition on.

If anyone has these safety options with the camera mounted behind the screen above the usual one for the auto-wipers/headlights could you compare it to the photo below & post a picture of your camera fitment in relation to the red line shown please (this is the top edge of the heater panel in the shroud that acts as a demister specifically for this camera).
TIA
Mike

Sorry, I know I shouldn't because it doesn't help;
This is what happens when manufacturers get in to an arms race to over complicate their vehicles with gimmicks, then convince the public that they need them.

Did Autoglass bring your van in to do the replacement? They can only do the calibration etc in the workshop. My fear is that you’ll have to adjudicate a finger pointing exercise between your insurer, autoglass and VW.

OE VW glass has the camera mount bracket factory pre-installed so not Autoglass’ or dealers fault.

Autoglass did fit the windscreen at their depot & tried to static & dynamically calibrate it.
Then referred me to VW CV main dealer who did much the same with no luck. Hence my post asking for images of other vans with the camera fitted as they feel the mount may have been badly factory fitted.

WRT costs, my insurer is covering it all free & if the windscreen/camera mount position is at fault VW will replace the glass FOC as it’s a VW OE part under warranty.

These systems have been on VW group cars for several years (my 17’ plate Golf had it) & I didn’t spec it on this van as it was a stock/demo van that was available when I wanted one.

Good stuff

Resurrecting this thead as the ADAS system still will not calibrate (statically or dynamically) after many main CV dealer visits.

ODIS-dynamic calib error.jpeg

I'm desperately looking for knowlwdge/expertise WRT windscreen ADAS processing/displaying data as VW dealer is struggling & MasterTech is leaving.
Any help/advice appreciated. (VW-CS have been involved since New Year but no help to me or dealer really.)

ODIS & VCDS both report the same error 'camera out of poistion' BUT it isn't! This is purely the symptom not the cause

Front Camera error-VCDS-no-Calib.jpg
ODIS for VW MasterTech is also reporting 'some weird live data error' in the CAN network that VW MasterTech thinks could be from either the Infotainment MIB3 or Dash but can't pinpoint, which he thinks is possibly preventing the camera taking a calibration

So far;

1. Windscreen has been replaced TWICE with OEM part to eliminate camera & bracket poor positioning.
2. CAN Wiring has been checked to camera/mirror area
3. Camera unit has been replaced, coded, works fine but original & replacement new one will not take a calibration
4. Dealer now looking for van with same control modules (MIB3 control & dash etc wer his main suspects) to swap out to rule out hardware without having to order costly new ones like the camera I've ended up funding

@Dav-Tec & main dealer have checked CAN wiring to camera etc & passing data OK which it is

Does anybody know of any ADAS/ODIS experts who have knowledge on how exactly VW have implemented the processing of BOSCH camera data for Traffic Sign Recog & HBA as that doesn't work also due to the camera not being able to take a calibration?

Admins' @Pauly would this thread be best moved to VCDS diagnostics section BTW??

Did you get this sorted? Having same issue after screen replacement.

Did you get this sorted? Having same issue after screen replacement.
Sadly not.

Currently negotiating with supplying dealer/converter Marshalls-Bridgewater/Autohaus) to get the van to them as local dealer group JCT600 will now not touch the van as they deem this fault to be 3rd party issue & can’t claim under VW warranty.

As I’m in Scarborough & Bridgewater are ~300miles/£100 diesel/5-1/2hrs each way the logistics/costs are a big issue for me having already paid over £600 for a windscreen camera.

Sorry to hear the issue hasn’t been resolved. I’ll keep you updated if I get the issue resolved. Currently bouncing between auto windscreens and vw.

Sadly I know that feeling very well
Autoglass are a nightmare to try & communicate with IMO.

Hope you get sorted:thumbsup:

This is finally resolved:eek:

Basically many main VW CV dealers don't seem to know how to reset & recalibrate the Bosch windscreen camera effectively when their ODIS SW tells the tech it's out of position or needs resetting/re-calibrating.

Mine (suspension already lowered by VW app converter & dealer calibrated) wouldn't recalibrate after a windscreen replacement.
Autoglass & 2x JCT600 VW CV dealers couldn't fathom it after 9 visits & over 12 months.

Marshall's VW CV Bridgwater finally sussed that to 'reset' the system (having been re-calibrated for a lowered van already) they have to re-input the Std ride height settings 1st to get the system to fully reset to then accept being re-calibrated again.....hopefully I get my van back tomorrow after it being 300miles away for 6 weeks whilst they worked this out:rolleyes:

Hi,
Had screen replaced the other day and now the ADAS calibration doesn’t work. The windscreen company said they can’t fix it so handed the van back as it was.
Comes up with error ‘Dynamic Road Sign Display’. Having had a chat with a local VW dealer they said this could get very messy and expensive!
Any idea how I can get this resolved or what info I should pass on to someone please?

@vwski if your van is running a vw factory spec suspension/wheels/tyres etc & wiring etc in cab area is factory & not messed with, a VW main dealer should be able to calibrate it in 1-1.5hrs workshop time (~£180-£250) as a std job.

If van isn’t std you will be paying hourly labour rate for them to suss it.

They have to ‘trick the system’ is @ factory ride height to get it reset by inputting factory ride heights etc regardless of where it currently sits. Then it should recalibrate.

Some dealers can seem to do it.
Mine was done by Marshalls in Bridgwater eventually 300 miles away from me.

JCT600 group dealers in Yorkshire seem clueless IMO. It’s pot luck sadly.

I could only suggest your preferred dealer contacts VW Bridgwater after sales CV guy Adam Fear who dealt with mine (if he’s still working there)

Hi,
I has this exact issue. The van went between autoglass and vw a few times and all attempts to complete static calibration failed.

I went back to autoglass and the technician tried a dynamic calibration (I think in basic terms he drove it around in a calibration mode) after 10 minutes he returned and all was good.

Maybe ask the glass fitter if they can try the dynamic calibration.

Dynamic calibration wouldn’t work on mine for both Autoglass or VW main dealers x3 …

Thanks so much for your quick reply. It's much appreciated.

Like most people with a Transporter my van is no longer factory spec. It's strange though because the dealership I went into for a chat do the same modifications on vans all the time and never experience issues when swapping screens themselves. They seem to think Auto Windscreens have caused the problem by using incorrect equipment/software and now VW's software will be confused if attempted by them. It's not the first time they've had someone come in with the exact same issue unfortunately.
Their ludicrous suggestion is to put the vehicle back to standard and then swap back to how it is now. Basically they would fit OEM suspension, wheels, screen etc and then recalibrate off that. Once that's done and working correctly they would then swap back to my current setup. They estimate somewhere in the region of £3-£4k but even with all that work they can't guarantee a fix...mental!
I know absolutely nothing about this so I'm literally caught in the middle. So frustrating.

Worryingly I spoke with another VW dealer and they've never even heard of this kind of issue but did put me in touch with an outside company that do all their screen and ADAS work.
I'm in talks with them at the moment along with another company that specialises in ADAS calibration. They said they've successfully fixed problems caused by Auto Windscreens in the past so I remain hopefully optimistic...

Anyone else had success using a non-VW ADAS company?

I'm very confused though because ADAS is carried out all the time on all types of vehicles without issue. I called the company that did all my modification work and they've never had issues with screen replacements in any of their vehicles. They use National Windscreens. Maybe they use different tech?

Interesting... Thank you.
I will suggest this to whoever I speak with and report back.

@vwski It wouldn't surprise me if it was a SW issue caused by Autoglass' diagnostics that's causing all this.

Essentially they deleted my cameras 'Base calibration data', which meant that it wouldn't accept a re-calibration on their system, or a VW dealer ODIS based static & dynamic calibration.

I have a suspicion that on mine the whole system had to be factory reparameterised on ODIS bfore it would then accept a recalibration.
Adam Fear @ Bridgwater wasn’t specific on 'exactly' how they'd finally managed other than what I've already stated.

That's the problem really. Auto Windscreens have washed their hands of it completely and said it's up to me to resolve. I'm annoyed because their reason for it not working is because it's modified. The modifications were made clear to the technician before he carried out the work so why did he attempt it if he knew it wasn't going to work.
Why do I have the feeling this is going to get messy...

That is EXACTLY the same situation/scenario & converations I had with mine.

Yes mine was messy/costly/time-consuming for me & my insurer, who paid out for a lot of VW time on top of the glass replacement, & me personally funding a ADAS replacement camera for VW diagnostic purposes.

Autoglass are a hateful Co. to deal with IMO, 'IF' you can get through to a human who actually knows what they are talking about rather than the usual CS fob-off
