So I collected my van last week. Ordered sound deadening and insulation from kiravans and was planning to install today. Took off the first panel and found all this behind it??? What do I do? Leave it as is and return what I bought?

Guess you posted to early. Leave it on and cover over it - if that was the question :D

Yeah, pressed save a bit too soon. So skip the sound deadening and just go straight to stage 2 - thermo acoustic foam?

Use a plastic scraper to remove foamy bits in the lower of your pic, then use isopropyl alcohol to clean it up as best you can, the cover as much as you can in silentcoat or whatever product. Theyre quite fibrous those two bit, so careful does it to leave as little residue as poss.

Ok, I’ve worked around them for now as I didn’t want to make a mess. I could remove them later and add appropriate material. Still it’s a start

This is exactly where I am today.. New van day one ... panel off to see the same as you.. I did note that about a third of the wheel arch is tucked away.. I can't see how 2 pieces of felt make any difference like that? Are you stuffing any insulation in there or will that do? great to see somebody a day ahead of myself ; )

Exactly what I did. Next up is to add the thicker insulation and replace the panels with ply and then lining. Insulation is hard to come by so waiting for restock at kiravans. Still unsure how to finish. Not sure I want to cover everything in carpet. Considering to line the panels only and leave the metal work. It’s a new van so no unsightly scrapes or holes to cover up. I guess I could always go back and do the metal work later. I was planning to use hidden fixings with the original holes but I’m not sure how easy they are to remove again in future. For the ceiling I’ll probably try and get hold of something that matches the cab lining as close as possible.

I recently got Dacron insulation from Harrisons and pre carpeted panels from a guy on ebay. They come pre-drilled and with fixings, but not hidden ones (although you can slice the carpet, put fixings in and then glue the carpet again and they're hidden). I'm happy with them not hidden, so easy to get into again to run extra wiring etc. I may even going with black fixings on the silver carpet. I've only done the panels, as carpet everywhere in my old van annoyed me, as harder to clean etc. On a new van, why cover the pristine paintwork? The guy I bought from is in Carlisle, but delivers. His shop is here I figured why bother faffing about with carpet and glue for the few quid he charges. I'm leaving the original roof lining in for now.

Sounds like a great idea! I will take a look. Thanks.

Fixing the panels with hidden fixing clips. The panels just pop off using a trim tool no different to normal clips not a pain at all. they twist in from behind the panel so no need to cut your pre carpet 8mm holes just ease the carpet off the front a little with the blunt end of a 8 mm drill bit so the glue on the carpet does not snag the clip . For parts and materials There's loads of places Transporter HQ bailed me out as i was short of a box of DoDo fleece it came very next day... i packed stuffing in everywhere i could get it .. Not Carpeting the Paintwork i did mine to reduce condensation running down the walls on cold rainy night boiling a kettle or cooking dinner in the van you will see. there's plenty of vids on Utube on the all these subjects

I'd remove the black original insulation too, and put the sound deadening there, then you can go over the top of it with the heat insulation.

We went - Silent coat, dodomat extreme 16mm and then the converter has added in the recycled plastic wool on top of that. Hopefully should be as quiet and warm/cool as we can get it!

i went the same route with DoDo and extreme double layered the lower sides but we managed 3 boxes of fleece 2 x fat 1 x thin crammed in anywhere we could get it plus i foam injected the upper channels too just for good measure lol hope iv not foam glued in my back lights lol but works a treat the van is silent sat in the back with the doors closed hope no one hears me snoring too

Do you have any photos of the panels installed? Just trying to picture how it looks

I’m waiting for him to call me back. Do the screw washers have a cap on or do you still see the top of the screws?

Plastic cup and screw visible. You can use the hidden fixings, e.g. kiravans, the are no holes in the carpet.

What thickness are the panels you purchased non hidden the clips are xmas trees that push in showing a button top or twist turn into the back for hidden clips for 3.6mm thick panels i dont know if they make invisible clips for 6 mm panels @darrenm

I’ve just come back from a test run I’m the new van after sticking solely coat to the sides and roof. I put on about 80/90% coverage . Well it worked! Not going to bother going further than the silent coat stage. Definitely kills the rumble. I think carpeting the panels would sort the brightness reflective sound inside but I can live with that for a bit. If the speakers and subs went in then I think I would add in felt behind the panels plus carpeting .
