Help with carpet lining doors

So I’m gearing up for windows and carpet lining. I have a twin sliding t6 and it seems a lot of people don’t line the doors, just doing the lower panels.
As my van was panel van in its previous life someone panelled where the widows will go and used plastic connectors screwed into the metal work. Unfortunately this will be seen even when the windows go in as the trim won’t hide it.
My questions are…
Could I carpet it?
Is there a good reason people don’t?
Is there an alternative (apart from filling the holes and repraying)?

You can carpet, I think the reason most don’t is you need to create a neat edge, so that the rubber door seals close onto metal rather than carpet.

You could also try a stretch vinyl leather.

have you got a picture?
what about something like van shades window pod? that might cover it depending where it is?
