Hi all, late intro…

Hi everybody,

After lurking here for about two years I thought it’s ‘about time’ to introduce myself and my van to this great forum. I’m Dutch so appologies in advance for any odd wording and/or misspellings!

We ordered the van in March 23, right before the orderbooks for new T6.1 vans were closed by VW in the Netherlands. It took almost a year for the van to arrive at Tonke who did camper conversion. We got the camper deliverd early July 24. It was really cool to see and be part of the step-by-step transformation from a panel van to a camper. We also had a fair bit of modifications done to the standard Tonke camper build and they did an awesome job.

Two weeks after delivery we went for a month long roudtrip to the most southern part of Italy’s ‘heel’ (Puglia) covering about 6.000 KMs / 3.800 Mi through 5 counties. The van and the camper part is everything we hoped it would be. Perfect for the two of us. Today it has 24.000 KM / 15.000 Mi on the dail.

Some highlights:
  • SWB T6.1 Bulli / 150 HP / DSG7 / fwd
  • Twin Monotube Project - fully adjustable coilover set (Koni/Eibach) > lowered 3 inches
  • Twin Monotube Project AT2 18” wheels -10mm ET / Bridgestone Turanza 6 tires 255/45-15
  • TVS Engineering DSG software & remap
  • VW factory diesel heater
  • VW factory 2nd battery
  • VW Paddle shift steering wheel
  • Alpine speaker upgrade
  • Tonke camper conversion
  • Austops pop-top with custom colour cloth
I've spend quite a lot of time dialling in the suspension - preload, ride height and the matching damping on the shocks to find the sweet spot. Time well spend 'cos the van steers and handles very well (for a van) with clearly more comfort and a lot more sure-footedness than stock (although that isn't very hard to achieve over the atrocious stock suspension). 🤪

Gosh... I see this forum software is extremely effective in killing image quality. Oh well... 😊

Cheers,
Richard.
