High pitched whine on acceleration

Hi all. Im a first-time van owner. I picked up my 2020 t28 110 on Friday. I noticed on the motorway that around 60mph it develops a whine, high pitched and barely audible.
Is this a characteristic of the engine. I've not been a van owner before, so it may be totally normal.
It stops the second I release the accelerator and I can't hear it at lower speeds (I am a bit deaf).
The clutch makes no difference, as it is entirely accelerator-driven.
Turbo?
I've checked pipes, but can't see any holes etc.

It only happens at 60mph plus, in 5th. No 6th ger here.
My local mechanic heard it yesterday and he thinks it's just the normal sound of the turbo - he also says all these vans have totally different sounds, creaks and bumps...

I'd just wondered if anyone else experienced it. The van drives completely fine.

If it only happens in 5th, and the whine pitch is exactly proportional to road speed, then it'll be a gearbox bearing.
If the whine pitch is proportional to engine load, not road speed, it may be the turbo, or a blown gasket. But you would expect a turbo fault to present itself in any gear, not just 5th.

The pitch is constant when it comes in at 60, the volume rises between 60 and 70. disappears instantly when my foot is off the accelerator.
As mentioned I am a bit deaf so it may present earlier at lower speeds and I'm only hearing it at 60. The mechanic was sure it was a charicatistic of the turbo and nothing to worry about.
If it was.... i'd assume others with the 110 2.0 tdi from 2020 would have the same experience.

I had exactly the same issue. Only happened in 5th when you press the accelerator and not at similar speed in 4th. Unfortunately it was the gearbox bearing and was £2.4k to fix it with a gear box repair

My 102 has a whine when accelerating. I liken it to the old London taxis and some buses. Sounds a bit agricultural but it’s done it forever with no turbo issues. It happened before the DMF needed replacing and still does it after.
There are so many noises in the van I try and ignore them all now, otherwise I’d be a nervous wreck.
My local Indy has a Transporter and he looks after my van - he’d say if he was worried, he’s driven it enough and has others to compare against.

Edit: mine happens in any gear btw.

My t6.1 2022 T28 110 does exactly the same. Mine has only done 6k from new and it has done it all the time I have owned it, ie from 3k miles.
Must admit I have always put it down to the characteristics of the van. Sounds like a faint turbo whine to me, that just makes itself heard at a certain frequency. Not experienced anything sinister so far.

My mechanic was certain it was just a normal turbo whine. Of course that hasn't stopped me panicking about needing a new gearbox all day.

This happens to mine but only on acceleration in first or second gear first thing when I drive it..a slight whine...after 5-10 mins it disappears.. presumably after the engine has warmed up..I'm not overly concerned.

Should have said mine is T6.1 150 on a 22 plate...I've only had it 3 weeks.
