When I was given a quote for my van by the dealers, I was offered 11% discount. The day before I was due to collect my van, we were finalising the finance etc. The salesman told me I had a £500 deposit contribution from VW. I'd got £5k as a deposit so rather than paying 4.5k I transferred the whole 5k thinking that they would just recalculate the finance with effectively 5.5k deposit.
When I collected my van the finance was still the same showing 5k deposit. I had some extra's to add on to the van, lets say £1000 worth. So I assumed that I was £500 in credit with the dealer, to which the salesman agreed, I paid and additional £500 and I was on my merry way.....
Two weeks later the van breaks down, a further two weeks later still I'm in the dealership to collect the van and the salesman mentions to me that according to his accountant he has not charged me correctly.
In between this time the dealers had messed up supplying me the extra's I paid £1000 for so I cancelled the order and told them to just supply me the parts and refund any difference. I casually mentioned to the salesman that if he had charged me incorrectly the to just take it out of the refund I was due.
A couple of days later I had an email telling me no refund was due as I'd underpaid the first invoice by £500
When I mentioned the VW deposit contribution I was told it was included in the 'discount' line on the final invoice.
So I looked closer at this and it turns out that the 'discount' on my final invoice was no where near the 11% I'd been offered whether it included the VW finance deposit contribution.
Fast forward to today, I've just received a cheque from the dealers for £800. £500 for the deposit contribution and £300 to correct the discount. They've given me a variety of excuses from blaming the girls in the office to VW Finance for being slow 'paying out'
