Improvements you'd recommend.

If VW came to you and paid you a massive consultation fee, what suggestions for improvements would you recommend. For myself:

A petrol engine. (big and small choice).
To not lose the time delay so suddenly when a the passenger opens the door.
To be able to turn off the daytime running lights when the ignition is switched on (campsite etiquette, etc).
To have a headrest that will tilt forwards for support placement.
To have manual that shows placements of all fuses.
The top of the dashboard flat for brews and butties and pies and crisps, and so the it will contain any spilt drink so can be mopped up easily.

Better standard headlights
Comfort dash centre console that fits/works with double passenger seat
Better standard headlights
Rear interior panels that go all the way down behind rear wheel arches without leaving a big hole for no apparent reason
Better standard headlights
More or brighter interior lights in load compartment
Did I mention headlights ?

Yes, you are right about the need for better standard headlights. I noticed it early on and naturally thought I needed to set up the dip setting right, but after a while trying this I gave up and did feel the headlights were not powerful enough. That is very true.

Also, I have found myself stalling a few time when pulling away or turning a corner changing gear. I just feel it stalls easily. Fair enough, I need to be better and hit the right gear, yes, But my problem with it was that it wasn't so quick to be able to sort out and re-start and be off again. I have had to turn the ignition right back to off and then go again. Other vehicles it was there, on it, just a quick twist forwards without the need to turn it back. The stop start makes this more complicated in an emergency. Personally I would like the stop-start default to off rather than the other way round.

Also, the glove compartment is not deep enough.

Please don't get me wrong with this critique. I love the van and loads about it. But critiques are important for the high standard to be upheld.

They could of done a lot better of a design on the dash as you say the glovebox isn't worth having, thought there should be a light in the glovebox.
Should give the option what colour dash you could have on kombi and panel vans , black or beige

My DAB radio is very poor, as it keeps dropping out of reception way too easily....unlistenable.

The spare wheel too easily able to be stolen.

I would prefer not to have plastic on the bottom of the dip stick. Metal is best.

Better place to stow the jack.
Glove box big enough to keep the manual in.
Lights on the dash to show when head/sidelights are on.

It is good to be able to have walked from the van, remember you have left a window down, and then to be able to close it remotely. I think it would be helpful if the mirror went up remotely, as i quite regularly forget and then have to go back and put the ignition on.

You mean you've not got auto folding mirrors? How strange, mine do that by pressing and holding the lock button on the keypad for a couple of seconds.

Oh, really. maybe I have not tried it. I'm going to have a go in a minute. Just goes to show how imperfect I am.
I just thought it was windows and sunroof when I did that. Maybe it was the manual that didn't say so when I read about it, and then never tried it. I will check and report back. Thanks for telling me.

I can close my windows with the remote. Just hold the lock button down
This is on a high line.
I would like the side door and tail gate to close first time. Headlights would be helpful.

On my Kombi, I would have liked-
  • additional sound-proofing as tyre roar can get tiresome, although engine noise seems well supressed.
  • removable bulk-head behind rear seats
  • audible signal that doors are locked/unlocked
  • wipers that return to horizontal when engine is switched of rather than just stopping where they are in the sweep (I'll not be surprised if these last two things can be enabled using VCDS)

With Carista i've set it to confirm everythings locked with a beep. Perfect, as I've managed to lock the car without doors shut

I tried but they do not fold up when I hold the lock button on the remote. It is a startline, so maybe that is the reason.

StudleyGlass, thank you for those very good threads. I fear I would do more harm than good. I have to know my limits. I guess I am just going to have to remember, but I am very pleased I did get electric folding mirrors as i use them all the time on narrow lanes. But thanks for your thought and help.

Nah, It's just that I am one of those jammy bas***ds that have an Lmodule euro5, which a certain VCDS specialist on this forum posted up the coding sequence change (which can only be done on Lmodule at the moment - which equally is only on the euro5) and I made that amendment by using VCDS and now I have song mirrors that fold on the key lock.

Do you think anyone from VW actually reads such things as these suggestions? I mean the sliding windows have been leaking since day one of the T5. How old are they? 12/13 yrs? Have the bean counters truly taken over?

Ok just driven the van for first time in the dark, had to check my lights were on. I've now read loads of comments on here but shocking, seriously shocking to the point I feel like taking it to VW tomorrow and telling them to do something about it. How the T6 was launched with these lights is beyond me.

Great van but lights are a joke.

Is their a quick fix or do I need to ram raid VW?
