For a reason unknown to me the head unit keeps going to WiFi with no 4G signal shown. Whilst most things work Google maps and other maps won’t load. Similarly Apple Music won’t load songs that are not already in my library. I have tried various settings on my phone and on the van settings trying to stop the WiFi taking over but no joy. I am hoping it is just me ! Any help would be appreciated

That's not your head unit though - that's one of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto so that display is what your _phone_ is doing.

So check on your phone which WiFi network it has joined.

I'm assuming this is your 6.1 - in which case a likely candidate is that you have "Infotainment as hotspot" enabled - which allows your phone to use the van's built in LTE connection (if you've paid for the data as well)

As an aside the van will display how many devices are connected to it if you do have the hotspot active - but that is a little WiFi symbol with a number next to it. I'd show you a picture but I have the digital dash and it moves around a bit depending on view.

You should also be able to see in the menus on the head unit.

Thank you. I’ve tried disabling the hotspot and it wants me to switch on WiFi again. Yes I have the Vans LTE connection. Why can’t I load google maps or Apple Music. This has only happened a few days ago - running perfectly before. I guess my phone?

Do you have an active data plan from Cubic Telecom on the Van? And can you see it in the menus?

Also check your notifications for a software update, swipe down and right. I had a recent major update and my data connection didn't work until I had applied a subsequent update to make the data plans visible in the shop menu.

And yes check what WiFI the phone thinks it is connecting to and trying a speed test if you can.

Ok thanks I have now installed the latest VW software update but no change. I am suspecting my phone has the problem - iPhone so going to check Apple for any bugs - flipping technology

You don't need to do the whole App Connect thing to test the data connection, you could just use the WiFi via a laptop or a tablet if you want to test it independently of the phone.
