Install Led Strip Lights

I've got a transporter panel van and will be installing some shelving. I'd like some LED strips under the shelves that will come on and off like the current lights (as the doors open and close).

Anyone know any information about how to do this?

You can connect them straight to the existing courtesy light circuit. Red/black is +ve and Brown/red is -ve

Don't you need some sort of volt smoothing device? And what length of flexible LED strip could I run off the circuit?
