Interim carpet suggestions

We have a startline window van currently with seating configuration 2 / 3 / 1. I still have the bench seat so could be 2 / 3 / 3.

Our current use is predominantly family transport (up to 6 with the grand parents), cycling trips, camping trips (eventually) and UK holidays in rental properties.

Longer term (its a keeper) is to convert to some sort of camper with a bed but not fussed about sink / cooker / major cupboardage. Anything we do now could be throw away in phase 2!

The next project is to make it a little more comfortable / quiet. Plan is soundproofing everywhere and dodo mat insulate the walls (all will carry over to ph2). Then make ply panels for sides / doors and carpet.

The bit I’m struggling with is the n/s rear quarter. O/s has a heater and nice plastic panel which is staying for now. N/s is bare and I want to protect the wheel arch and D pillar. options considered:-

1) shuttle interior - typically have to buy the whole interior for one panel.

2) buy vanstyle panels for pillar / wheel arch - o/s will be surplus.

3)Stretch carpet rear quarter up to the window with the view it will be removed in phase 2 and redone.

Any other thoughts? Main purpose is to protect low level steelwork in the rear till we get to phase 2 in 3ish years time.

regards

Ian

Thanks for all your feedback :p

After much thought, including removing the rear heater, I’ve decided to half carpet the near side in stone carpet to emulate / mirror the plastic panel. This will include the wheel arch, C and D pillars up to the line of the wood panel. The panels will be changed to ply and covered in the same easyliner carpet.

It will be a nice carpeting test piece for me! Its a couple of weeks away but will post pictures once done.

I bet it will look great..

After consultation with SWMBO we’ve gone for silver not stone. Ply ordered, carpet ordered and dodo deadmat already in stock!

So, carpeting going well - only stuck one bit on the wrong side of the ply when I’d written BACK on it in big letters!

I have cut all the carpet pieces out and have a reasonable amount left.

I’m thinking of covering the plastic panel above to match - what do you think? Bad idea??

I’ve done the wheel arch already and that wasnt too bad.

Hi Ian .... As it’s an interim job your doing I’d not carpet over the plastics bits as if in the future you decide on the next step to take it all out you could sell on the panels.... just a thought ... easier to accessories to make it ur own ;)

Roof done - just a 12v socket to wire up and I’m done. I epoxy glued rivnuts into the speaker rings (to attach the speakers) then glued / screwed the rings to the roof ply. The edge was routered to give a nice radius for the carpet.
