I’ve been considering making a couple of shelves for the driver’s side rear quarter panel something like the attached pics. It looks like these are built on possibly a 15mm board.
I was planning on 12mm ply for the sides, base and top with a 3mm backing (where the tiling is in the pics). Mine are simply going to be a feature with recessed lighting. They won’t be used for storage.
The ply panel on my rear quarter is 3.6mm thick. I’m wondering how deep, wide and high the internals of the shelves should be? I’ve cleaned the insulation and deadening away from vertical centre strip on the panel. The rest doesn’t hinder, or cause any reduction in that depth (which I assume is as deep as they can go).
