Intermittent Amber EML

Just got back from having a diagnostic at the VW centre and this is the conclusion.

E.M.L on due to restricted movement of intake manifold flaps, new manifold and VAC control system modification kit.

Obviously this is not a cheap repair, anyone else have experience of this type of fault?

Thanks Derek

Yeah - the manifold needed replacing which cost around £430 plus 8 hours labour and then the air con needed re-gassing

I could have cried

Mine was intermittent so it only came up as a fault when I started the engine warm - never did it on a cold start

Yeah - it's crap isn't it

When they took the manifold out and showed me it just reminded me of a laser toner cartridge full of gunk

Looked grim tbf

Yeah that’s nasty.

At 61yrs old and owned mostly diesel vans for the last 40yrs (Transporters for the last 20yrs) I’m not sure I’d buy another diesel.

Problem’s with the turbo and DPF last year even with the extended warranty was expensive!

I’ve owned this one since December 2018 and it’s got 81000 miles so maybe it’s to be expected?

If I didn’t enjoy driving it so much I’d have parted company long ago.

Yeah I picked a diesel for the economy but that is getting wiped out by the need to rev the engine to stop the dpf clogging and a massive bill for a manifold o_O

I'm on 68k miles in my 2019 van and planning to keep it for another 4-5 years and hoping I'm past the extra costs

So new inlet manifold - VAC control system modification kit fitted today.
Fingers crossed that’s it for a while at least 😎
