Intermittent issues - coil light.

Hey all,

We've recently purchased a 2018 T6 and seem to have a couple of weird issues that we're struggling to get to the bottom of.

We've had a couple of codes, some of which pop up more often than the others. The most common one is P0402 EGR Excessive flow Detected. EGR was replaced 9 months ago. The other faults are listed below.

P0236 - Turbocharger/supercharger Boost Sensor "A" Circuit.
P2279 - Intake Air System Leak.
P13D6 - Glow plug 3 pressure sensor.
P0402 - EGR Excessive Flow Detected.

The faults appear anywhere between 0-3 miles and sometimes don't come back on once the van is up to temperature and we've turned it off and on again. We've also notice a weird rattle and whoosing noises at around 1500rpm before the coil light comes back on but again, it's intermittent.

The vans been back to garage once and they replaced the MAF but it's a backstreet sales only outfit and I fear they don't really know what they're doing.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Bit of an update on this one....

So after many months, it looks like we've finally resolved the issues we've been plagued with since we bought the van back in July (hopefully not jinxed it). After two garage visits, a new MAF sensor and a lot of head scratching, it looks like it all came down to the intake manifold MAP sensor (G31).

I'm not sure why either garage didn't suggest the MAP sensor in the intake manifold but it could be related to which fault code that was showing at the time of investigation. Deciding to go it alone, I purchased VCDS from Gendan to see what was actually going on for myself and that's when I spotted the output readings from G31 whilst under boost..... 99kpa (14.39psi) no more no less. You can see from the photo why nothing was registering. So after 100k miles, it was absolutely full of muck and no doubt from the EGR system.

Rather than cleaning it up and sticking it back in, I decided for £24 I'd be better off replacing it. I also did the front EGR pipe at the same time as it was only £70 from VW with all gaskets and bolts. Two hours later, fired it up and the difference was immediately apparent, VCDS readings also showed boost registering.

We're now 70 miles in (furthest we've been without a coil light), and the van is an absolute dream to drive! Zippy, efficient and zero fault codes. We've also made the decision to run Shell or BP premium from now on to try and limit how much rubbish comes through the EGR system. Perhaps in vain but we'll see!
