Is this the normal view inside oil filler cap?

Morning all

I’ve just opened my engine oil filler cap and saw this…. It’s not what I was expecting but I don’t know if it’s normal? The van is a T6.1 IMG_2531.jpeg72 reg 150 DSG with 14k miles.

Any advice or reassurance greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's not unusual, particularly if you do shorter journeys. It's moisture combining with oil at the top of the oil filler where it is cooler.

Check that you don't have the same on your dipstick.

Nothing to worry about if you're not losing coolant, have a read through some of these threads which should put your mind at rest;

Thanks guys. Really appreciate you responding - I have no idea about this sort of thing!

I’ve not used the van for a few days and just checked the dip stick and the oil level is sitting perfectly in the middle of the two lines and shows no evidence of having the same frothy stuff on it.

what he said -

Very Normal.

Great thread and very reassuring! Just bought a 2020 6.1 with 23k and looking inside cap and instantly checked coolant and heat sank..alas happier now I’ve read this thread so thanks all. Oil is above half way and on the way after picking up had the overfill warning so probably need to loose a bit I’m guessing. Went off once cooled

Not in the internal combustion engine world until VW said it was normal and that makes it OK:grin bounce:

I’ve wrapped double bubble double foil insulation around my filler neck and have no mayonnaise at all but I don’t use my van for short journeys.

John.

Not much point in doing that.
As the fuel is used, air has to replace the volume. The cap should have a breather hole for this otherwise your tank will start crinkling up with a partial vacuum.

You can double bubble all you like, but air still gets in and air holds moisture.
However - the long journeys - I envy you on that.

Around the oil filler neck not the fuel filler as what would that achieve.

I'll have some of what you are drinking!
