I've got holes

Hi everyone,

Looking for advice, I have just ahd my RIB bed moved forward in teh van and now have 5 holes... a couple are covered by what i am guessing is the newly positioned mounting bracket, the others go straight through.

I am happy how i will cover them from the interior but would like some advice on how to seal the bottom of the holes to keep it all watertight. They are quite deep so not sure if i am going to be able to get a larger disc than the diameter of the hole down there to cover it?

Cheers all.

I would use a countersunk bolt with rubber and steel washer underneath to plug the hole.
You could spray the bolt the same colour as the wood, this way it is a water tight seal.

I’d use a plug cutter on some matching wood and glue the plugs in to make the holes almost invisible.

Sikaflex or similar weatherproof adhesive sealant from underneath.

thanks guys, as the floor is some sound deadening and then insulation before glue on mdf/veneer floor (Unique to VanFurniture.co.uk our 10mm VW T5 T6 oak flooring kit — Van Furniture) do you think cutting out a slight larger hole and allowing the bolt to screw down to the metal would be needed? I am worried i wouldn't be able to get enough pressure for a water tight seal without either sinking in to the floor or compressing/distorting it

Thanks again for your help!

I think the idea was to plug the metal van holes from underneath and to plug the holes in the floor as purely a cosmetic feature.
If you remove the rear threshold cover how far under that does the flooring go?
You might be able to use a plug cutter to get the required pieces from your actual floor and make a near-perfect repair.

To do this i would have to cut bigger holes in the wooden floor otherwise i will not be able to get anything above the metal van floor which is wider than the metal hole to screw the bolt into.

or am i missing something?

good idea with the rear threshold cover i will have a look

I got the feeling that @DXX was just suggesting covering the holes with sikaflex from underneath, but I might be wrong.

Use something like this from the underneath with a good helping of sealant, and the aforementioned cosmetic wooden plug on top.

Sealant from underneath, I spent 12 years refitting submarines, you should be OK IMO;)

If you need any of the flooring I’ve got some bits in the garage, happy to send you one for the postage cost

thanks for the advice everyone - for anyone else searching in the future i bought stainless steel discs and silka'd them to the underneath and for good measure gave everything a coat of rust proof paint
