Morning all. I decided to put my vow key in the washing machine (naturally). Anyway when it came out it had a low battery notification, I swapped the battery and now the red light on the key started flashing and buttons don’t work. Key works and starts van but the buttons don’t. I have a Christa so i can do anything with that if needed, be nice to get a bit of use out of it lol.

anyone have ny ideas on how to repair?

I’d take the battery out leave the case open and put it in a warm place - airing cupboard if you have one. Battery out for a while might need some ‘pairing’ work when you pop the battery back in. Leaving it powered and full of water will be bad for the circuitry!

It’s pretty dry now, this all happened a couple of days back. do you happen to know the pairing process?

I have paired fobs with vcds in the past not sure if anything else has the functionality ?

My battery is running low why is there no easy solution to changing battery and then pairing ti van again:thumbsdown:

I should have said in my previous comment that i was pairing new fobs not existing, once programmed the fob info is held by the BCM so i doubt VCDS/laptop but would be required for an existing key ?
Not changed a battery in my 6 or 6.1 but i think in most vehicles if you swap it straight over then it will continue to work if not then there is normally a simple process to align the fob to the vehicle again (resync rolling codes or something at a guess) my last car you just keyed on the ignition then button pressed the fob while in the ignition and it repaired, something along those lines

I've recently changed my key case. Battery was out 20 minutes and the key still worked fine when fitted back together.

The instructions in my manual for resyncing the transporter key are below. I suggest (based on the instructions below) that you unlock the driver door and lower the driver window first.

1. Open key bit. (flip out the blade)
2. Press unlock on the fob.
3. Lock the van using the key in the drivers door lock.
4. Switch on the ignition till the dash lights come on.

That should be it.

I changed the battery in one of mine a couple of weeks ago and it worked as it should without anything further being done. That said, I only left it without power for a matter of minutes!
