Kombi Bed Search Quest

Long shot here but does anyone recognise which company manufactures the bed in the attached pictures?

They look very similar to the ones 'Van Furniture' do but with an added vinyl coating?!

The ‘vinyl’ coating you refer to is the black/brown finish. This is Phonelic ply and a very good material and strong for all sorts of projects, furniture, staging, trailer floors etc. It comes in various patterns and the one you see is a ‘Hexa’. Similar to Buffalo board in construction, different pattern.

That's really interesting, presumably it is a resin/polymer applied as the last layer of the ply lamination process? Not one to get excited by wood but this does look mint..

Got in touch with ply guys who were really helpful and confirmed it is the following model:

Bit rich for my blood at this time of year but definitely worth a look after Christmas!

Pretty sure that the top pic is of my van when I had this unit fitted at The Ply Guys premises.

It's a great set up, well made, absolutely solid and definitely worth the money.

I just decided to go in a different direction and sold it to fund something different.

I have this bed from Infinity Customs

Much cheaper, quality is fair / ok. I think some people have had issues with delivery and customer service. You take your chances but mine came on time and with all the right bits. I just painted it black as they wanted an extra £400 to use Buffalo Board.

Would have gone fixed but I use the back of the van all the time.

Here is a link to the original thread with lots of pictures

Yeah that looks sweet I was after a full width affair with the drawers that pull out so I can put some cooking equipment in

That looks very nice how much would that set someone back??
The one with drawers was £1400 inc vat, this was tweed finish Birch ply. We can also do one in the black phonelic Heksa ply for £1220.

Many thanks,
Ian

We've been making boot PODS, rear PODS etc in various guises for many years, some with drawers, some without, some with cookers, bike storage etc, we design for customrs needs. Our new website - imminent - will have various products available but until them we can be contacted to discuss requirements.

Here is a post we added with more details on the boot pod above.
cheers
Ian

I know you didn’t end up using it but were you able to sit on it comfortably? I want one of their beds at the same height but I’m worried about the lack of head room…

I'm a bit of a short arse and my head almost touched the roof, but I could sit upright.

The issue with anything designed to be level with the folded Kombi seats just sits that little bit too high to leave a decent amount of headroom.

I thought that may be the case :( I’ve been sitting on the folded seats, with a cushion on top, trying to decide if it’s comfortable . Appreciate your feedback! Thanks

What did you conclude on the height dilemma? I've been doing the same my neighbours probably think I've lost it sat in the back contemplating. I am wondering about getting something like the Ply guys swb pod made. But as a two part unit. One 1400 and one 400. And keep the height closer to 400. That way when I need the extra seat I can just pop it out. Any creative ideas or anyone.

I decided it was too high :( reckon it’s manageable but I didn’t really want to spend that much money and it just be manageable :notworthy:. It would also be for socialising and ‘guests’ complaining about headroom would be annoying. I don’t actually need the bed to go over the seats as it’s LWB, I just wanted the extra storage, but I’ll probably end up just getting the lower option…
