Kombi rear seat options - bench or 2+1

I have just purchased a used t6.1.
I never knew until now of the various rear seat options available in a Kombi.

Mines is a 3 seater bench and I can already see that i would probably have benefited more from a 2+1.

It got me thinking what are the pros of a 3 seater bench as I can only think of cons?

What are the cons of a 2+1 as I can only think of pros?

Does it all come down to cost when they are originally speccd up by the first buyer?

Cheers in advance

Interesting question. My 6.1 was a very high spec demonstrator - twin electric sliders, led headlights yet they didn’t spec the 2+1 rear seats. It’s probably the only thing I would have specd differently. The only advantage I have found is that you can slide stuff under both sides of the seats if you have to move anything long.

This one I have went for is a decent spec also, twin sliders although not electric. I have managed to tick all the boxes I wanted and totally overlooked the seats. I mistakenly always thought all the factory Kombi's had the same seat configuration and believed some of the others I had seen were panel van conversion choices.

There only seems to be cons to the 3 seater bench which is why I can only assume its an easy place to save money for those who aren't bothered about it when they originally spec up.

I retro fitted a 2+1 and the only advantage I can see is the single seat tips forward for easy access to the rear...

Another advantage, at least for me, is that I can take two seats out, load 3 MTB's in the back and can still carry three passengers (single front seats).
I also use it the other way around sometimes (single seat out) to drive around the 2 little ones and my wife and carry something.

Thats ideal, Definitely more versatile which is why I am unsure why anyone would ever spec the bench.

I had a list of must-haves and would like.
Ours is a LWB Kombi, with twin soft close, glazed sliders. Two single captains seats and 2+1 rear make it a 5-seater ‘car’ as reqd.
Our other vehicle is a convertible MINI, which is only a 2+2.
A useful advantage for us is we can have a double bed behind the rear 2 seater and a portaloo where single usually is, when we occasionally camp.
