Kombi workvan racking

I’ve got a kombi at the moment I use for the family but I’m thinking of starting myself doing plumbing and heating, does anyone have any pics of racking systems fitted in there kombi? Not sure if I’d be better changing to a panel van. Just handy with the seats for the kids.

I have a twin door kombi and have sortimo racking in the rear section (I’m a SE spark).

because I find the van noisy with kit inside, I’ve recently acquired a bulkhead which makes a huge difference BUT I can’t fit the rear seats in .... so my next task is to make a bulkhead out of plywood to attach the racking so if I need to, I can fit the rear seats If I need them.

I will post some pictures in the next couple of days

I’m interested in seeing what you come up with, i’ve got a Panel Van and theres only myself in it 95% of the time but i’ve just got some Kombi Seats and was trying to work out a way to have a easily removable/folding bulkhead for when someone was in the back seats.....
 
If you look at mine, I deliberately ordered a twin slider to enable my custom build that houses all my kit and still gives me a Kombi, albeit with only 2 seats in the rear. I had to spec a LHD rear floor to get the single seat behind the drivers seat, so this could be removed, thus allowing my kids to get out of the van on the path side and not the road. It took some clever thinking, but it works perfectly for me.
Mine had to be a LWB to fit my scaffold towers longest pole. The chippy that built mine, used 18mm ply and then carpeted it, making it totally sound proof. The only drawback with such a well fitted system, is it's so well fitted that you have to drop a window a fraction to close the sliding door because it's almost air tight :rolleyes:

Hi, been a member for a while now but never had a good reason to show off what we have. Like yourself we are plumbing and heating engineers and find what we have works great for us, check out the pictures and I'll fill you in if you want to know more.

As you can see all it is is two long drawers supported by an ally frame, with storage for pipes under the smaller of the two which extends to under the drivers seat this gives great all round access to everything within and means there's no need to keep things too tidy! While above is rubber covered which does a surprisingly good job of keeping things in place. Either side are lift up flaps for other bits and pieces.

Afraid its not the cleanest at the moment but that's a work van for you!
 
The seats are from an Audi A6, when I bought them it included the rear seats and the centre console so I decided to make a centre console, the base of it is just carpeted mdf the top is a cup holder/storage thingy i found on ebay (genuine vw apparently for a T4?) With the chopped up rear armrest, front armrest and some pieces of leather from the rear seats to piece it all together this is mounted on some drawer runners to allow access for the handbrake. It works well, gives an extra 2 cup holders a fair bit more storage space and makes it look a bit nicer in general. An experience I've had..........someone ran into the back of me putting my van off the road, all my spares and tools are in racks and when I don't have my van there's no point going to jobs even with a hire van.
Now I use the stackable boxes that shops use for deliveries (with the lockable lids) for my spares and tools, anything happens to my van and I can now transfer all my kit to any other vehicle.

Yeah I’ve seen it, I stay in Ayrshire I’m a heating engineer been working with a company for 13years doing plumbing repairs, gas servicing and repairs and i think I’m going to make the leap of faith and start myself in a few months. Just not sure if my kombi will be suited and was contemplating going to the dark side dare it say it a transit custom
 
Been self employed over 10 years now and couldn't imagine going back. If you find its not for you there'll always be a job somewhere to fall back on. As for space concerns, we moved to a kombi from a lwb mk7 transit 2 years ago and thanks to how its set up we've never missed the extra space. If anything having less space means you tend to carry less useless tat around.

I've made a sliding 3 piece bulkhead which allows up to 10 sheets of 12mm ply stood upright.

Lwb kombi used for plumbing/multi trade and family duties.

It's in with VW this week I'll post a few pics when I get it back.

I find if your organised enough the space is enough for the business side of things.

Hi, really interested to see your racking if you've got any pics? im just converting my LWB panel van to a kombi and looking for racking ideas, hoping it will work for my work needs. im plumbing & heating engineer too.
