Leak caused by new speakers?

I've got to the van a couple of times this week to find a puddle of water in the passenger step. First time a small amount of water, and the second time a slightly worrying good inch of water. I had a good look around for the source but nothing obvious. I've got VW roof rails, but I fitted the them almost a year ago now , with the recommended large dose of sealant. The only sign of water was at the bottom of the door card, but this could just have transferred from the puddle.

Any hoo, I called the dealership and asked for advice, and was asked if I'd had any mods, specifically speakers, to which I said yes ( but more than a year ago). I was then told in the door panel there are are two areas, one dry, one wet, and that new, deeper speakers could be encroaching into the wet area and the water running down the inside of the door card.....I will take the door card off next week and have a look......but does any of this sound plausible ? I'd like to know from the pro's on here if this is " a thing".

Check the door seal where it meets the bottom of the glass, had the same issue on my drivers door and the front inch or two of the seal was not meeting the glass properly (by the wing mirror) and letting water run down inside the door and presenting on the interior step, funnily enough it was only an issue when parked on a side on slope encouraging water in that direction, returned to dealer who sorted it

Yep, had the same. Only happened when I drove onto the drive and not reversed.

I had the same issue and sure enough it was the speakers, first the drivers and then strangely enough 2 weeks later it started on the passenger side, I bought the speakers forward and stuck some dynomat over the back of them. That was 9 months ago and been dry since.

Going to have to look at this. Found that my passenger step was full of water this morning.

Thanks @Alan Walsh , I had the feeling VW were spinning me some bull but maybe not. Strange though , they have been in for over a year and no problems until this last week. I will be taking the door trim off this week at some point and investigating further.

Mine were in for a good few months before it started and then only when parked on a slope, it then progressed to both speakers and on the flat. Its all very strange but since I made and installed mdf rings and covered the rear its been bone dry.
