Thankfully not so crazy priced for a T6, the LEDs are available as independent parts
Here the retail net cost of complete headlamp followed by both headlight LED elements

Never looked at a headlight in terms of taking it apart but from the above image it looks like a few screws and you can remove the LED insert/module (but i doubt it will be that easy !)

I pressed my dealer about the warranty on LED headlights when I bought the T6 and was assured (albeit only verbally) that unlike normal bulbs the LED unit was covered by the 3 year warranty should it fail.

Has anyone had the need to find out if this is fact, i.e. had a failure within warranty?

As stated in title when returning after a trip last night a bug or particle in on one of my LED headlights caught my eye which afterwards has had a hard time avoiding to see it.

I havent previously had anything disassembled.

Should this be possible?
Is the headlight a sealed/closed unit which should make this impossible?

Am going in for oil service plus a few others on Wednesday so would very much like to hear opinions/experiences from others.

If not being able to make a claim with VW is it possible to clean it out with a reasonable effort?

Thank you in advance.

I have had a seed in the one LED glass on mine. Only spotted it with my OCD cleaning . When it was in for service i showed them and it was replaced no problem.

They are sealed units so i would say that is a warranty replacement.

I recognize the OCD cleaning part all to well. :)
Thanks for your reply.
Will bring the LED up with my dealer when in for service on Wednesday.

I Might be barking up the wrong tree here, but after seeing some chap do OEM headlight upgrades with sequential turn lights with a modual and also neo pixel LEDs for custom colour designs. I was wondering if there is a disasembly guide for the OEM T6 LED headlights so I can atempt to mofify myself? also after seeing a couple of posts on the forums I am tempted to also add sequential to the wing mirrors

There isn’t, but I have taken a set apart. In short, it’s not easy and not quick.
I’ve used a heatgun and flat-head screwdriver to slowly work around the edges to remove the front lens. Once open, all internals either clip or are unscrewed out.
YouTube will have you consider knocking up a makeshift oven (as these won’t fit in most domestic appliances) but it’s a risk with other parts melting (mounting points, for example).

I’ve not yet put them back together, and know that when I do, dust will be an issue as I don’t have an airline to assist with cleaning.

Alternatively you can send them to Trup at EM Tuning who will do a professional job.

So basically the front clear cover is glue sealed on, and requires heat to soften the compound in order to get the front cover off, dust I have a couple of air blowers i use for computers as well as canned air, I only worry about damaging them beyond repair as they are very expensive to replace

I’d recommend buying a pair of H4’s and using the lenses as a donor. That’s what I have done.
The lip of the lenses are bent round at a 90° angle in some areas which causes most of the grief.
Getting the lenses off the LED’s is painstakingly slow because you’re battling with trying not to overbend the lip of the headlamp, so you may end up damaging the lens.
But otherwise yes, no specialist tools required for disassembly.
Let us know how you get on.

Hoping these links work:

The tabs of some of the internal components sit within the channel that the lens sits in, so be mindful of these:

Hi Guys
Does anyone know if a LED headlight can be repaired ? the plastic securing tab has broken off
Can the units be dismantled and be put back into another housing ?
cheers
Andrew

The units are not made to be dismantled easily. The edge of the lenses are angled, so they lock in to the housing. They’re then glued in.
You’d be able to take them apart, but putting them back together requires melting and curing.
What are the odds on the clear outer lenses of LEDs being the same as H4s?
You could use a LED unit with front damage as a donor and and transfer all your innards to that, replacing the lens with any (H4 & LED, and likely H7, use the same front lens).

Also, you could send them to someone like EM Tuning for repair, as dismantling and rebuilding headlights is his bread and butter.
