Looking at buying van off eBay

Hi
First post on here

I’m looking at purchasing this dayvan off eBay , I’ve had the aa out to do a vehicle check and mostly all ok apart from some minor issues
I don’t have the budget at the moment for the van I want but think this will give me the chance to find out if the van life is for me and my partner plus young one and dog ,
Suppose I’m just asking if anyone knows the van or can offer any advice , I’ve already priced up respray of lower half and new wheels
Thanks in advance any help

My view is that there’s £7k of builders van there that was converted some time ago. If he has the paperwork for the work that’s been done (timing belt etc) it looks like a good entry level camper. Seller has been up front about the Cat6 write off, which is good. That new wheels are a priority when on a budget is bit of a contradiction!

The 5-speed manual and poor headlights may be bit of an irritation, but the engines on the 5.1 were good.

Thanks for taking the time to reply it’s appreciated, , AA report states alloys are corroded I’ll inspect properly they might just be scuffed/kerbed ,
Yes 5 speed box was a concern of mine also , but been looking for months and this ticks most boxes so will prob make an offer on it today
Thanks again

I've read many times about the 5 speed box being weak but I've never read on here of any that have failed, maybe I've just missed it but there are a lot of members on here who've got the 5 speed box and I've yet to see any complaints about it.

My thoughts exactly.
Both my works T5.1 and my T6 camper have 5 speed boxes and I’ve never had any problems with either.
The T5.1 has 178k miles on it and gets a bloody hard life and the gear box hasn’t been touched. The van has spent its whole life constantly carrying a huge weight of tools and equipment.
New clutch and fly wheel in that time but the gear box is great.
I also can’t think of reading anyone apart from post above that have had problems with their 5 speed boxes either.

Oh no, it only took 37 minutes for somebody to prove me wrong!

Picked up Saturday drove home the couple of hours smoothly only to suffer a broken driveshaft 10 mins from house ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
All done now ,
Any recommendations on insurance companies please
Tried to add onto my aviva policy but they said won’t take a conversion thats not from factory

I daren’t ask what insurance you drove it home with!

I thought of that but it drove faultless no signs of anything then pop went when pulling off at a roundabout
Would they have been able to see anything?

Replace the other side too. If one has gone it's highly likely the other won't be far from going and it's difficult to tell visually.

Was going to but mechanic said it all looked fine , also the driveshaft was not the usual splines worn that looks like a common problem it had broke opposite side near wheel

I refer my learned friend to the final five words of my previous post.
