Ok so got bored with the crappy cup holders in the caravelle comfort dash.
I’m no means a woodworking ace, it’s just a bit of fun at the weekends and for repairs.
I Wanted something to be more useful than a big gap between the seats, so the design started.
As I did this I had other ideas, phone holder for the passenger, charging for the phone or other devices and storage. I didn’t just want a big space I wanted to store maps and nicknacks.
This is my final console.
It needs varnishing but this week is it’s test drive so not worth doing just yet.
Wireless 15w charging supplied from duel 3amp usb plugs. I ran 12v switched power from the fuse box to under the passenger seat and used a SAE cable with a 10amp fuse (needs changing to 5amp to match the cable). It’s quick disconnect for the power and the unit isn’t fixed to the floor. It weighs a load as it’s beach ply. Need to sort out a better solution for the anti slip mat for the wireless charging pad.
I have to v cut the drawer to allow it to lift over the transmission hump on the floor but this is ok with me as you don’t see it when it’s stowed away and it gets around the problem.
Hope this gives some of you ideas and if I can do this so can you. Oh and the handbrake is close but rarely used on the DSG.
