So i had my shuttle in at manchester van service centre for a ns sld locking module in june and they damaged the door card. A replacement card was ordered and fitted yesterday at their cost. When i asked for the damaged card to be given back to me i was told no i cant have it back as it belongs to vw. A bit of a row ensued and i left without it. My question is,is this right and do i leave it or do i pursue it and if so who do i speak to next?.
On another note this is what is on display in the waiting room...wtf?.IMG_20190729_184924.jpg IMG_20190822_145359.jpg

I have had things replaced before at different dealerships that I have had good relationships and been told the same. It seems to be common practice.

I think the dealer is taking the approach of replacing the part for you as opposed to compensating you.
Therefore the replacement is yours and the original is theirs.

Thats bullshit (the practice not what your saying). The way i see it its my property as it came off my van.

I hear what you’re saying - maybe they think that the part is salvageable and that they can flog it to someone else (and they didn’t want you to be able to).

Sounds like they have tried to save a few quid but have ended up upsetting a customer, which surely is a fail in the Business 101 textbook.

The main thing is - your van is fixed and the damaged panel has been replaced

I’m sorry I don’t see it the way you do. In my opinion your van now is in the same condition as when it was taken to them. (Regarding the door card). They have swapped a damaged door card for a new one.
I know dealers try our patience a lot but in this case I’m sorry to say but I agree with them.

I think its more they dont want me to have it like you say cos i caused a stink when they damaged it in the first place. Their attitude towards me and this issue has been diabolical. Its not that hard to refit a door card or take it off without damaging it and thats what i said to them. I told them if thats their standard of work id rather take the new card and fit it myself but they wouldnt let me. They offered to collect the bus from my home address!...as if id let them drive it after seeing their standard of work... Tossers im fuming.

I can understand you being angry at the damage in the first place but imho they have done everything I would expect to put it right trying to cause you the least inconvenience.
Sorry.

I reckon you’ve hit the nail on the head there mate. A dealership to avoid, perhaps.

I imagine it is an across the board policy with all parts.. It stops defective parts being fitted to a vehicle and presented for a further warranty claim.

If they replace a part under warranty at there cost . . . . then they have no obligation to give you the old part.

but if its out of warranty and at your cost then you are welcome to the old part . . . . . unless there is a service charge attached to it (ie starter-motor or recondition-able part etc)

In fact if a defective part is replaced under warranty the dealers have to send the defective part back, they don’t just bin them. (At least other manufacturers do)

yes totally, all the under warranty stuff gets sent back to the factory . . . . . thats how they asses faulty parts and make modifications and upgrades to iron out part failures over time.

I've had a EGR, full engine block and 4motion rear diff all sent back to factory for investigation (T5.1) under warrenty works . . . . . but the MOL battery was diagnosed onsite and then sent for recycling . . . (i asked if i could keep it . . . . they said no =[ )

The T6 rear door lock assembly was also replaced and the old unit sent back for investigation.

I would imagine there will be an internal enquiry as to who is responsible for the expense, and the part will be sat on a table in front of a quivering tech while a panel of suits grill him. No evidence, no rollocking!
