Ours wasn't screwed in, just a very tight fit with the base edge under the front loading ring surround trims. Positioned right up against the rear triple seat (Kombi)
It required a lot of easing to free it and I think once free of the ring surrounds a bit of twisting to remove through the tailgate!

Well, just a bit awkward!
Remove the seats and you should then be able to push it forward and out through the sliding door.
