OEM full height rear panels

I'm going to be insulating my van in the coming weeks and once done I'll be thinking about carpeting it. One thing that's played on my mind is how to carpet the upper half of the rear as there's no wood there.

I know you can get ply lining kits, but do VW make/sell full height panels? As my van only came with half panels. Would prefer oem vw ones as the fit 'should be better! Or any other recommendations for spot of fit full height panels?

I have the tools and capabilities to make them, I just really can't be arsed!:rofl:

Depends what plans you have for the van, but if you're going down the day van route you could go for rear quarter windows instead?
VW definitely do oem full height rear panels as I removed them from mine. Not 100% sure if its same for a T6.1 as mine's a T6
Might be best trying any local campervan conversion companies as they usually strip them out to replace with ply

Not a big fan of the hardboard lining that comes from factory. Get it wet a couple of times and its nothing but painted cardboard. Im planning doing the lining from 4mm ply.

Hi Tommy,

This is exactly what I am looking to do.

I have an LWB Highline that came with lower OEM panels. But I have seen other vans with full height panels.

Did you decide to carry down this route and if so so you have any part numbers?

Or did you come up with an alternative solution?

Have you thought about how you are fitting them? I’m trying to figure out how to attach panels I’ve cut out for the top rear panels !

Well my van came ply lined. And I found the OEM panels underneath.

The two panels were laminated with sealant to give the ply something to bond against.

For my final finish I am going with laminate sheets. A lot of the lower half won’t be visible anyway due to furniture.

The ply had been installed by VW (albeit a contractor) via self tapping and self driving screws. The screws with the blade on the bottom.

I presume they were stainless steel as no galvanisation had occurred between the metal body work or the screw.

If you have no intention of removing the panels I would think you could use a sealant. The one VW had used was brown and had a smell to it that wasn’t one of silicone. And it had dried hard but with a small amount of flexibility to it.

Good luck.

Will use the OEM clips.
