Oil filter problem

Hello,
today i made an oil change with filter. The car parts store sold me the Mahle Filter and on the website the filter is the right for my VW T6. But in the workshop, doing the change, I saw the whole in the filter is to small, it doesn't fits on the spring in the filter box, so i just cut the outstanding part of the fleece and than it fits. Later i saw that most other filters have a big whole and a bit a different head. Just thought maybe somebody has experience and can tell me if my cutting was ok at the end.
Thank you.

Looks like you have the wrong filter?

I really don’t think that cutting an oil filter to fit is a good idea. Using the correct part would be safer.

Don’t think a return will be accepted now it’s been cut up and fitted!!

I changed the oil filter yesterday to my CXHA and I had also Mahle OX787D. Filter fit the housing without a problem. The inner part of the oil filter will bend to fit the oil filter leg. This filter matches the OE number.
