Light just come on at 68k miles, guessing this is to drain and replace with new oil, whats the costs of this job and does it also require a new filter? any help or advice would be much appreciated
when was it last serviced? Oil changed? Service history?
I don’t personally wait for light to come on mine gets serviced every year along with it’s mot usually do 8-10k a year. As @Dellmassive says some vans are on long life service every 18k which is fine but not for me.
When you say ‘light has come on’ which light is it? From memory isn’t the oil change warning an actual message that shows a countdown to oil service?
Are you sure it’s not the low oil warning light or the low oil pressure warning light.
As said above . Oil and filter change. Costs will depend on where you go. VW will certainly be more costly than an independent. As others have said try and do an oil service before the service indicator comes.
O service is quite literally an oil and filter change. Dending on how bored the tech is while the oil is draining he might glance at your brakes.
Visually inspecting brakes, steering, suspension, etc, is technically part of of the A service - they may be on the lookout for upselling opportunities but your're not officially guaranteed anything more than an oil and filter swap on an O service.
0.6hrs labour, plus parts and oil, plus VAT. Around the £225 mark (with standard oil) is fairly typical VW Commercials price. You're well out of warranty so no reason not to use Fred in a Shed on the industrial estate and save a few shekels, but be sure they use a decent filter and correct spec oil.
